Five Top Tips For Planning a Wedding

16 Jan 2020

We've said it before and we'll say it again - January is a huge month for reflecting and taking a look back at some things people wished they had done differently. If you're on any social media, you've probably seen all of the posts with people taking a trip down memory lane and posting their achievements from last year and their goals for this year. Even as we reach the middle of this long month, we're still seeing these posts pop up! Don't get us wrong - they're great. It's always an incredible feeling to see your friends doing well and reflect on their past.

However, as a team of people who find ourselves glued to different Facebook wedding groups (no secrets here!), we have also noticed a large number of brides-to-be coming forward and asking if people had any regrets about their big day and the planning process. A few had some, saying there were a number of things they would have done differently, whilst others swore that they wouldn't change a thing.

Everyone is different, but it got us thinking... Should you look back on your wedding and wish things had been different? It's an unanswerable question, but it sparked a discussion on some things we'd share with brides as top-tips for the wedding planning process. So, today - that is exactly what we're going to talk about!

Get The Big Stuff Done First

Planning your wedding is meant to be fun and exciting, but it's no secret that planning can become stressful, daunting and not enjoyable at all.

There is a lot that can go into planning a wedding, which is why we highly recommend getting the big stuff done first. Everyone's planning process is different, and it can sometimes be easy to get distracted by finding (and creating) the right centrepiece and enjoying all of the fun decorations and details. However, it can sometimes be easier to see the bigger picture once the big stuff is finalised first.

Big things include finding the right venue, setting a date and choosing a caterer! Once these things have been selected, it can be easier for everything else to fall into place.

Hunt for A Venue

We know how magical venues can be. Maybe there's a venue that means a lot to you, or perhaps you've had your heart set on a venue since you first saw it. However, don't be afraid to have a hunt around.

The venue is a big deal and one of the things we recommend doing earlier in the planning process. It helps set the tone for the day and will let you have a good idea on numbers, decor and your limits, which is why finding the right one for you and your partner on your big day is very important. Don't be afraid to have a look around with your partner to see what's out there.

You may end up going back to the one you first looked at, but there's no harm in seeing different options!

Make-Up and Hair Trials

A lot like venues, we know what it's like to have your heart set on something and not thinking about making any changes. However, your hair and make-up for the big day are important! With photographers, friends and family surrounding you, it's important that you not only look great - but you feel great, too.

No matter how much you trust your chosen make-up artists and hairstylist, it's a good idea to do some trials to make sure you love what you see. Not only does this let you play around with ideas, but it's also a great way to get excited for the big day!

Keep Your Inspo Eye Out

We live in a world of social media, and on each platform, there is a range of inspiration out there!

From nail ideas to centrepiece options, the internet offers endless ideas and inspiration. Don't be afraid to take a look around and see if there is anything that you like. We've spoken before about how Pinterest is a great place for sourcing ideas, and we still stand by that. Of course, there are pros and cons to using the internet for inspiration for your wedding, but it can be a great tool for searching for something you may not have thought about before.

Enjoy Being a Bride

There's no denying that planning a wedding is a big deal!

We often see brides who sacrifice some of the things they love and want because it doesn't fit in with what their guests may want or like. A big top-tip we'd like to give is to enjoy being a bride! The day is all about you and your partner, celebrating the two love between the two of you. If there is something you and your partner want, allow yourself to be selfish and have it! It's your day and you can have it however you want.

There is a fine line between being a bride who knows what she wants and the legendary Bridezilla, which is why a lot of brides find themselves making sacrifices and changes that are suited more towards their guests rather than themselves. Be generous, yes, and take into consideration what your guests like, but remember - you are the bride! Let it be your day!
